Park’N Fly alerts travelers of data breach

Airport car parking service Park’N Fly has notified one million customers that their personal and account information may have been exposed due to a data breach.

In an email addressed to customers, Park’N Fly says that ‘an unauthorized third party’ was able to access its network through remote VPN access. Investigation showed this happened between July 11 and July 13.

“On August 1, 2024, we determined that some of your personal information was likely affected by the incident. We have not seen any additional unauthorized activity since we began our investigation,” Park’N Fly states.

Hackers were probably able to exfiltrate names, mailing addresses, email addresses, Aeroplan numbers, and CAA member numbers. The latter offers a special discount for loyal customers. According to the company, no financial or payment card information was accessed.

Since the incident happened, Park’N Fly has beefed up security in accordance with outside security experts, including updating the anti-virus software throughout the network and implementing additional technical and administrative steps.

The Canadian airport car parking service recommends customers to remain vigilant and mindful of phishing attempts. If you receive emails from an unknown sender that contains unusual content, such as links or attachments, it’s better to ignore them. If a sender wants you to provide extra personal information, don’t do it.

A spokesperson of Park’N Fly told BleepingComputer that approximately one million customer files were accessed. Furthermore, he confirmed that all account passwords are safe and that impacted systems were fully restored within five days.

“We remain committed to transparency and will continue to prioritize the integrity of our systems as we navigate this situation,” Park’N Fly’s CEO Carlo Marrello added.

So far, no hacking group has claimed responsibility for the data breach.

Park’N Fly offers off-airport car parking services in seven Canadian cities, including Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, and a lot east of the Edmonton International Airport. The company also provides shuttle services, car washing, and oil exchange services.
