1Password is now ISO/IEC 27001 certified
1Password has received ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, as well as ISO/IEC 27017:2015, ISO/IEC 27018:2019 and ISO/IEC 27701:2019. That means the password manager now meets the highest international standards for information security and privacy.
ISO/IEC is the international standard for managing information security. It was originally published by the International Organization for Standardization (IS) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) back in 2005. It was revised in 2013 and, most recently, in 2022.
The ISO/IEC certification details all the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving safety standards to secure information assets.
There are numerous variations of the ISO/IEC standards. The most recognized standard for information security management systems (ISMS) in the world is ISO/IEC 27001:2022. When an organization receives this certification, it has proven it follows the best practices and principles of information security and knows how to manage security and privacy risks.
Besides the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, 1Password also received additional standards and extensions, namely ISO/IEC 27017:2015, ISO/IEC 27018:2019 and ISO/IEC 27701:2019.
That means 1Password has adhered to strict information security and privacy standards regarding cloud service providers and cloud service customers, protecting personally identifiable information (PII) in cloud computing environments and continually improving privacy information management systems (PIMS) respectively.
“1Password has been a trusted security, privacy, and compliance partner of the international business community for a long time, and we’re grateful for their loyalty. But it became clear ISO certification is something our community relies on, something it values,” Megan Barker, senior security specialist at 1Password, writes in a blog post.
She says both new and existing customers will profit from the compliance requirements. “The 1Password ISO certification is a sign of organizational and security maturity and serves as evidence that we take the safety and privacy of your data incredibly seriously. It illustrates our ability to protect your company’s most valuable information.”
Additionally, the certifications represent 1Password’s commitment to its customers. The password manager promises to do everything in their power to remain ISO certified and will continually demonstrate the ‘highest level of trust.’
