Law enforcement agencies take down Redline and Meta infostealer infrastructure

The Dutch National Police, the FBI and a plethora of other international law enforcement agencies have announced they have gained ‘full access’ to all of the servers of the Redline and Meta infostealer.

On the website of Operation Magnus, a task force which is tasked to take down the infostealers, a video is displayed, saying this is the ‘final update for Redline and Meta’.

The task force claims to have full access to all Redline and Meta servers, including usernames, passwords, IP addresses, timestamps, and registration dates.

The law enforcement agencies say they were also able to lay their hands on the infostealers’ source code, including the license servers, REST-API servers, panels, stealers, and Telegram bots.

The video shows several administrator panels, the source code of the malware, and a dozen of usernames for individuals who made use of the infostealers, calling them “VIP-status for all Redline and Meta users, where ‘VIP’ means Very Important to the Police”.

“Involved parties will be notified, and legal actions are underway. Thank you for installing this update. We are looking forward to seeing you soon,” the video concludes.

At the bottom of the page the Dutch National Police has installed a countdown timer, which is set to go off on Tuesday afternoon.

An infostealer is malicious software that is designed to steal login credentials for online banking and crypto wallets, but also login information from a wider range of programs.
