PS5 Pro specs have leaked before launch, Sony is adding extra RAM
The PlayStation 5 Pro will get a performance boost, primarily in the RAM department.
According to a leaked specsheet, which was published on X by game reviewer Brunno Fast, the PS5 Pro will be equipped with an AMD Ryzen Zen 2 octa-core processor, which is the same CPU as the current model has.
On top of that, the gaming console will feature 16GB of GDDR6 RAM, and an additional 2GB of DDR5. We can’t say for sure why Sony has added the extra memory, but gamers seem to think Sony did it to run the PS5 Pro’s operating system. That means that game developers can allocate an extra 2 GB of GDDR6 memory for their games.
More Virtual RAM of VRAM means developers can implement better visuals, whereas more RAM probably means better performance. With the alleged additional support of 8K graphics, Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) AI-driven upscaling and enhanced RDNA 4 ray-tracing, chances are likely that the extra GDDR6 memory will be used for such features.
In addition, the leaked specsheet suggests the PS5 Pro’s built-in graphics card has 16.7 Tflops of processing power. Previous rumors however suggested that the GPU has 33.5 Tflops of processing power. The difference might be due to the way AMD calculates the performance of its RDNA GPUs.
Furthermore, the PS5 Pro has two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port that support the USB 3.2 protocol with speeds of up to 10Gbps. There is also a USB Type-A port that supports the USB 2.0 protocol and speeds of up to 480Mbps. The spec sheet also lists Wi-Fi 7, as Sony had previously announced, and Bluetooth 5.1 support.
Hideaki Noshino, CEO Platform Business Group at Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced the PS5 Pro in September, calling it “the next step in evolution” thanks to its upgraded GPU, advanced ray-tracing technology, and AI-driven upscaling.
Some games will reappear with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label inside, including Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.
The PS5 Pro will launch this week on Thursday November 7 for a suggested retail price of $699,99, £699,99, or €799,99. It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro.
PS5 Pro is available as a diskless console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.
