WordPress.com introduces new AI website builder

Building a website can be a hassle. WordPress.com wants to make the process easier with its new AI website builder.

Just like any GPT, WordPress.com’s AI website builder uses a prompt where users can specify their wishes for their website. They’re no longer bound to a specific theme or color palette, and they don’t have to dive into the theme’s code to make changes.

“Rather than piecing everything together yourself, like picking a theme, adjusting colors, adding text, and finding images, the builder streamlines the process for you,” WordPress.com says in a blog post.

How does this work? It’s very easy, actually.

First, you go to WordPress.com’s AI website builder page and describe exactly what you want your website to look like.

You’ll have to be as specific as possible in your first prompt: the more information you provide, the better. Tell the prompt what your website’s name is going to be, give a short description of the site, describe what your header image should look like, and tell what kind of content you want to publish on your site. Don’t worry about the colors, font types, images, or layouts, you can adjust these later on.

Once you have filled out the prompt, log in to your WordPress.com account or sign up for free. The AI website builder is now going to build your site with the information you provided. Next, you can make changes manually by editing the page or by asking for updates in the chat box.

When your homepage is to your liking, you can add additional pages, for example, a contact form, portfolio, or testimonials. WordPress.com offers 30 free prompts. If you purchase a hosting plan for your site, you’ll have unlimited prompts.

WordPress.com says its AI website builder is not just for freelancers and bloggers: developers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners who need a professional online presence can use this tool to build a website from scratch.

The AI website builder tool isn’t quite ready to create e-commerce sites that require complex integrations, like a webshop, but that could soon change as WordPress.com tells us to “stay tuned.”

For now, the AI website builder only works for new websites, meaning you can’t modify existing websites with AI.
