Apple confirms: personalized AI infused Siri delayed until 2026

Apple says that all personalized AI features for its voice assistant Siri have been delayed until 2026. Initially, the tech company wanted to release the long-anticipated upgrade of Siri this April, along with iOS 18.4.

Apple spokeswoman Jacqueline Roy issued a statement on Friday to Reuters, Daring Fireball and other news outlets that we won’t be seeing any improvements to Siri any time soon.

“Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT,” she stated.

“We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year,” Roy continues.

Apple announced Siri’s overhaul as part of Apple Intelligence’s preview at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2024. It would include new capabilities, such as rewriting emails, summarizing your inbox, and looking for information in your emails. But also onscreen awareness, personal context understanding, and in-app controls.

For example, users can ask Siri to look for a specific chat conversation, or to find a particular photo from the phone’s gallery.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman learned from anonymous sources that some of the more personalized Siri features for Apple Intelligence would be delayed, because they are currently not working consistently.

It’s unclear when the AI infused Siri will become available. According to one of Gurman’s sources, the improved voice assistant will arrive with iOS 19.4 in Spring 2026.

Apple is also reportedly working on a completely revised version of Siri, which can have natural conversations with users.
