Apple Podcasts will automatically generate transcripts

Apple said that creators will be able to provide their own transcripts of shows, and those who don’t will get assigned automatically-generated transcripts.

The company said that each word will be highlighted as the episode plays, allowing users to tap a certain word in the transcript to start playing from that particular part in the episode.

“Apple automatically generates transcripts after a new episode is published. Your episode will be available for listening right away, and the transcript will be available shortly afterwards,” Apple said.

The new functionality will be available with iOS 17.4 for English, French, German, and Spanish shows. Apple said transcripts would be available in 170 countries and regions.

The transcript will be generated automatically once the show is submitted to Apple Podcasts. Content creators will get the chance to use their transcripts. However, the transcripts must be free of spelling and punctuation errors and include all segments of the episode.
