Leak confirms OpenAI is working on ChatGPT 4.1 and other AI models

ChatGPT developer OpenAI is getting ready to launch a few new versions of its AI model. They are called GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and GPT-4.1 nano, and they will arrive before GPT 5, which is scheduled to be released in a couple of months.
That’s what sources familiar with the company’s plans have told The Verge.
Although they couldn’t say what the upcoming large language model, or LLM, will be called, it will most likely be ChatGPT-4.1. One of the sources claims it will be a revamped version of OpenAI’s GPT-4o multimodal model.
Allegedly, OpenAI also plans to launch GPT-4.1 mini and GPT-4.1 nano alongside GPT-4.1. And this might happen sooner than you think: according to The Verge, the AI models will see the light of day as soon as this week.
The tech site isn’t the only one that thinks OpenAI is about to introduce the new LLMs. AI researcher Tibor Blaho has found what he calls “undeniable confirmation” that OpenAI is preparing to release GPT-o3, GPT-o4 mini, and GPT-4.1, including mini and nano variants.
When watching Sam Altman’s ‘Pre-Training GPT-4.5’ video on YouTube, Blaho noticed something interesting. OpenAI’s co-founder and CEO dropped a hint that his team was working on a new LLM.
“If you guys could go pick whoever you wanted, what is the smallest team from OpenAI that could go retrain GPT-4 from scratch today with everything we know and have and all the systems work?” Sam said.
Was he talking about GPT-4.1 or some other AI model? We can’t say for sure.
What we do know is that GPT-5 isn’t set to be released soon. Earlier this month, Altman confirmed that the chatbot will be launched “in a few months.” He also acknowledged the release of GPT-3o and GPT-4o mini.
