Samsung introduces new flagship: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition

Samsung has announced its latest flagship, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Unfortunately, the handheld will only be available in South Korea.

With a thickness of 10.6mm and weight of 236 grams, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is 1.5mm thinner and 3 grams lighter than its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. That makes this smartphone the thinnest and lightest foldable in the Galaxy Z Fold series to date.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has a cover screen of 6.5”. With a diagonal of 6.3”, the panel of the Galaxy Z Fold6 is slightly smaller. The newest device has the same AMOLED panel with a 1080x2520 pixels resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The screen on the inside is 8” in diagonal, compared to 7.6” of its predecessor. The new AMOLED display of the Special Edition has a resolution of 1968x2184 pixels and also supports a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.

Samsung gave the main camera on the front an upgrade from a 50 megapixel sensor to a 200-megapixel sensor. The other cameras are the same as the Galaxy Z Fold6: a 12-megapixel ultrawide angle camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, and two front cameras. The 4-megapixel camera on the inside is located underneath the pixels of the folding screen. The 10-megapixel selfie camera is located at the top of the cover screen.

The newest flagship is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU for optimal performance and AI processing power. In addition, it’s equipped with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Like the Galaxy Z Fold6, the battery of the Special Edition has a capacity of 4,400mAh.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will be released on October 25, 2024, in South Korea in one color only: Black Shadow. It will be priced at around 1,865 euros or 2,000 dollars.

Samsung hasn’t said anything about the smartphone’s availability in other countries. It remains unclear at the moment whether we will ever get to see the Special Edition in Europe or the United States.
