Exodus: Is It the Best Kodi Add-On? (2025)

Many Kodi users will have heard about Exodus. I've used add-ons from other developers before, but today I decided to install and explore Exodus Redux. In this article, I'll share my impressions and compare them to other high-end add-ons for Kodi.
The latest version to date is Exodus Redux. It was replaced with the super popular V8 in 2019. The new version features improved handling of cached data and a more optimized code. The add-on also got new filtering options for search results and expanded the list of movie categories.
When I first installed Exodus Redux, I noticed that the software had gone un-updated for a considerable time - since late 2019 (software version 2.0.3a) - but in 2025 a new version of Exodus specifically for Kodi 19 Matrix appeared in the Kodi Bae repository. After a while, however, it stopped opening.
The repository that hosts Kodi Exodus is currently down. You can install an alternative add-on or a finished build with multiple add-ons to watch free video content.
⚠️No matter what video add-on you have, always use a VPN for Kodi to remove all possible restrictions and secure your connection. This won’t only save you from potential problems with the authorities (add-ons often use torrents), but in most cases, it will also save you from buying a debrid service subscription for high-quality movies.
IMPORTANT: When using the unofficial NFL add-on for Kodi, there is no guarantee that the stream is legal. Use a VPN that will hide your network activity from the ISP.Get an extra 20% discount on the best VPN

Installing Exodus Redux
The add-on is installed through a third-party repository. This is because Exodus is an unofficial software and was created by an independent developer I-A-C.
-
Step 1: Go to the file manager and connect to the repository URL.
- System menu> File manager> Add source.
- In the window that appears, enter the address https://i-a-c.github.io and the name “Exodus Redux Repo” (you can use any) and click OK.
-
Step 2: Go to the “Box” menu and install the repository from the zip file.
- Home screen> Add-ons (left menu)> “Box” menu> Install from zip file.
- In the window that appears, select Exodus Redux Repo. The installation is starting.
-
Step 3: Install the add-on from the repository.
- “Box” menu> Install from repository> Exodus Redux Repo> Video add-ons> Exodus Redux.
- A window will appear informing you about the need to install additional modules. Click OK. This is required for Exodus to work. After that, the add-ons and Exodus Redux itself will be installed.
You can also install one of the pre-installed Kodi builds that already Exodus has in it.
Personal experience and opinion
Overall, installing Exodus Redux wasn’t in vain. I made sure that the add-on provides free access to a huge database of films. I liked the division of materials into categories and subcategories. For example, Exodus has 22 genre subcategories. Not all video add-ons have this.
For the test, I chose the Crime genre. After about a minute, Exodus gave me a huge list of films, among which I clicked on The Beast (2020). The system found 11 providers with this movie and displayed all the discovered options:

After that, there was some hitch. I clicked on search results in 720 resolutions, but nothing happened. Only from time to time a small download window appeared and then disappeared.
When trying to run a movie in a lower resolution, Kodi said that authorization is required on the provider's website:

In fact, I could not run the first movie I came across in good quality without explaining the reason and in low quality without authorization at the source.
Fortunately, this didn’t happen again with the next movie and I was able to launch the video player.
During the testing of Exodus, I often found myself in the situation that you need to enter the registration key on the provider's streaming site and authorize it in the add-on settings. This is extremely inconvenient, although it is necessary only once.
Perhaps this is the only drawback of Exodus Redux that I have come across.
In general, I would call the add-on average. It can do a lot, including torrenting; it supports debrid services, but I did not notice the high speed of the software and I was disappointed that few sources are supported without authorization.
I'll still return to my beloved The Crew, which I wrote about in my review of the best unofficial Kodi add-ons.
Best alternatives to Exodus
So, you have installed Exodus Redux, made sure that you spend a lot of time looking for really working sources (providers), and want to try another add-on to compare and decide which is better.
What's the next step? Which add-on to choose for comparison or replacement?
Here are the top 5 best Exodus alternatives in 2025:
1. THE CREW
The best video add-on I've tested. There is nothing superfluous, it supports many good fast content sources that don’t require authorization. Compared to Exodus, it offers 2-3 times more search results. Variants with a resolution of 1080 are much more common.

2. TEMPEST
This add-on supports even more good video providers and is known for regularly releasing updates to its software. Slightly slower than The Crew. I liked its support for a “long” press on the remote when installing add-ons for Fire TV.

3. VENOM
Great add-on for iPhone and iPad. I love Venom because it supports over 30 torrent sites by default. Naturally, it's important to run a VPN before streaming torrent content. Let me remind you that this will hide your network activity from the Internet provider and save you from possible problems since the content you are viewing may be protected by copyright.

4. SCRUBS V2
A strong video add-on featuring an incredible number of video content source hosts. 65 streaming providers supported!
With this add-on, you will definitely find any movie, series, TV show, or other video content.
The disadvantage is that it is quite difficult to find a working one among the search results.

5. SEREN
A really fast add-on, Seren is built on a fundamentally new scheme that takes into account the peculiarities of modern processors and optimizes the code for maximum performance.
Seren allows you to connect additional services that expand its functionality. For example, an automatic continuation of viewing from the previous meta.
The downside to Seren is that most features require a paid premium debrid subscription to the Premiumize or Real-Debrid service.

Best VPNs to work with Exodus
In conclusion, I would like to warn you against watching video content via Exodus without a VPN. It can lead to real penalties in countries where torrenting is illegal. In addition, ISPs may completely or partially block streaming providers or limit their speed.
A VPN solves all these problems.
This technology creates a completely legal virtual tunnel from your device to a special VPN server in another country. The traffic sent and received through this tunnel is securely encrypted, and the addresses of the sites you visit are securely hidden from anyone who might intercept your traffic in your country.
This solves many problems with accessing content you stream via Exodus or any other add-on.
A peculiar bonus of VPN technology is the increased speed of streaming content if it is usually restricted by the Internet provider. This significantly increases the maximum available video quality.
It is more convenient and correct to install a VPN as a separate application rather than as an add-on. Then it is guaranteed to protect your entire device, including your web browser and other applications. You can also download and install a VPN add-on from the websites listed below.
So, here are three of the best VPNs to work with Exodus on any platform:
1. ExpressVPN
A perfect VPN for Kodi add-ons. It allows torrenting, supports streaming platforms, and has super-fast speeds of over 150 Mbps.
I know for sure that it is used by millions of people from all over the world. ExpressVPN has a crystal-clear reputation for not leaking personal information of its users. It is assisted by a secure jurisdiction in the British Virgin Islands and diskless server technology, which guarantees no logs being recorded.
2. NordVPN
My favourite VPN that I use all the time. It is almost as fast as ExpressVPN and has many advanced settings. It’s suitable for masking torrent activity and IP hiding.
What I like most about NordVPN is its connection speed with minimal CPU usage. This makes using a TV, smartphone, or computer with NordVPN as convenient as without a VPN. This is especially noticeable on weak platforms.
3. Surfshark
Surfshark is better than other VPNs if you plan to secure Exodus for more than 1 year. In this case, you can save a lot. A 2-year subscription for this service costs $2.49, which is more than 3 times cheaper than ExpressVPN and almost 2 times cheaper than NordVPN.
At the same time, Surfshark is perfect for viewing torrent content. The provider's VPN servers support torrenting. And there are more than 3500 of them in 62 countries of the world.
