Kodi on iPhone and iPad – The Best Option With No Time Limit
If someone tells you that the Kodi for iOS doesn’t exist, don’t believe it. I will tell you about an easy, effective way to install Kodi on an iPhone or iPad, relevant for iOS 12.2 and any later version that I have tried on my iPhone. You only need the device itself and a Windows or Mac computer.
📑 Table of contents:
It's hard to imagine a more regulated platform than iOS. All apps in the Apple App Store are thoroughly tested and none among them allows you to access free streaming content. Typically, iPhone and iPad users are forced to watch movies, TV shows, sport, and other video content through a web browser for free.
But there is a solution!
In this article, I won’t only describe the process of installing Kodi on iOS, but also describe in detail all the preparatory procedures, and you, after spending 15-30 minutes, can easily watch any movies through Kodi on your iPhone or iPad.
And even more! I will show you how to transfer settings with all add-ons from your Fire TV to a configured smartphone or tablet.
⚠️Before getting to the bottom, I want to warn you that content streamed through unofficial Kodi add-ons may infringe copyright. To avoid creating problems with the law, install best VPN for Kodi after installing Kodi. I will provide a list of them at the end of the article.
The article has only a research nature and doesn’t call for copyright infringement or otherwise breaking the law. Before using Kodi, make sure that streamed Kodi add-ons free video content isn’t copyrighted.
I want to warn you right away that the only effective technology for installing Kodi on iOS requires a Jailbreak. In short, this is the current legal way to block system protection, thanks to which we get the opportunity to install third-party apps.
This technique has two significant drawbacks:
- The risk of data loss during the procedure (minimal, but it exists).
- When updating the system, the Jailbreak disappears and you need to wait for a fresh patch.
I considered for myself that these disadvantages are negligible compared to what opportunities Jailbreak opens and did it. And everything went great!
In the next chapter I will describe the setup process, but for now, i'll tell you briefly about what will be required of you.
What do you need to install Kodi?
Most importantly, you should have a Windows or macOS computer and a cable to connect your iPhone or iPad to it.
I also recommend saving all important data to iTunes or cloud storage and synchronizing.
It sounds scary, but personally, I didn’t do it, since I have repeatedly done Jailbreak for iPhone 4, and everything always went without problems if the instructions were followed carefully.
You will also need to download and install a small piece of software on your computer. It is secure and required for Jailbreak.
If you have never installed programs on your computer yourself, or are simply afraid to mess something up, then ask someone more experienced to do it. It doesn't take long and is worth some effort.
There are 4 ways to install Kodi on iPhone / iPad, but only one of them works for a long time. Other methods require reinstallation every 7 days for free. And for a fee, I see no reason to install Kodi.
IMPORTANT! The instructions I am suggesting are suitable for devices with iOS 12.2 or higher. For earlier versions, Jailbreak using technology described here.
Disclaimer: All information provided was obtained by me for research purposes, and I am not responsible for its further use. I don’t advocate violating the rules for distributing and receiving copyrighted content. I only describe the essence of the technology and share my research experience.
Step 1: Install AltStore.
- Download and install the program from altstore.io on your computer.
- Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer using a USB cable.
- Install AltStore on the connected device using AltStore on the computer.
- Sign in to your Apple ID account.
More detailed instructions for installing AltStore are published here.
Step 2: Install unc0ver.
- Open the site unc0ver.dev on your mobile device (in Safari).
- Click Open in AltStore.
- Sign in with your Apple ID.
- Start unc0ver.
Step 3: Make Jailbreak.
- Click on Jailbreak in unc0ver
- When finished, you will see the Cydia app installed. This is an analog of the AppStore. In addition to Kodi, you can find many apps that were previously unavailable.
Be careful when installing apps from Cydia. iOS has taught us that all available apps are 100% secure. Cydia doesn’t have such strict verification. Try to use the AppStore whenever possible.
Step 4: Instal Kodi
- Launch Cydia.
- Search for Kodi using the search bar, similar to how you would do in the AppStore.
- Select a 64-bit installation.
- Click Modify in the upper right corner.
- Click Install.
- Click Confirm on the required storage space.
- Wait and click Return to Cydia.
Congratulations! Now you have Kodi on your iPhone / iPad.
You can find more detailed instructions with pictures here (paragraph 4.1).
Step 5: Install a Kodi build (bonus).
Follow the detailed instructions for installing the Kodi build. (тут ссылка на якорь # раздела Установка сборки Kodi на странице https://cooltechzone.com/vpn-for-kodi/best-kodi-builds)
You can also install one or more video add-ons instead of installing a build, but I advise you to install a build, as it contains skins that will make using Kodi on iOS much more convenient.
So, you are the lucky owner of Kodi on a platform that at first glance could not offer you that. If you followed the advice from Step 5, then you even have the Kodi video add-ons already installed.
But don't rush to watch free video content without protection.
It is extremely dangerous to run Kodi video add-ons without masking traffic and location. They may be torrenting or receiving content from sites that violate copyright laws.
To safely explore the capabilities of Kodi and its add-ons, including those that use torrenting, you need to launch a VPN app for iOS.
I have selected the 3 best deals on the market and briefly described my opinion of them.
You can install an app that will 100% solve all the security and privacy issues of your Internet connection: ExpressVPN. This service offers software for any platform by subscription.
With ExpressVPN, you can also increase the quality of your streaming content if your ISP is limiting your streaming data.
ExpressVPN has been ranked as one of the most trusted VPN providers in the last 10 years. I use it for work on my iPhone and completely trust it.
You can learn more about the provider by reading my ExpressVPN review.
The next VPN service is on par with ExpressVPN. It has a slightly smaller coverage of countries (59 versus 94), but it supports ultra-fast connections, which makes the use of the VPN almost invisible for the Kodi user.
NordVPN is also my favorite. I chose it for home use. I like the stability of the connection and the interactive interface.
You can find out more about the provider by reading my NordVPN review.
And Surfshark is perfect for long-term use of over a year. All good and fast VPNs work with paid subscriptions. But Surfshark makes these subscriptions virtually invisible to the wallet. It's 3x cheaper than ExpressVPN and almost 2x cheaper than NordVPN. However, only on a 2-year subscription.
Technically, it is almost on par with its competitors. The tests showed a slightly lower speed of US servers.
By the way, Surfshark works confidently in countries where VPN are blocked (Iran, China, and some others).
You can learn more about the provider by reading my Surfshark review.
So, I have described the process of installing the latest version of Kodi on devices running iOS. It may seem too difficult, but following the instructions is easy enough.
You just need to take care of the presence of a computer and USB to Lightning cable in advance.
Also, it won’t be superfluous to immediately attend to the installation of trendy add-ons and protection using a VPN app.
Please write about it if you managed to install Kodi using my guide. Perhaps you think that some information needs more detailed elaboration. You can also ask any questions on the topic of the article in the comments below.
